No one is likely to expect former Rolling Stones' bassist Bill Wyman, nearing 69 years of age at the time of this 2005
release, to turn out a groundbreaking, experimental album. That expectation is well founded. In fact, Wyman's band the
Rhythm Kings, play a version of old school bluesy, R&B that is so comfortable it feels like a pair of well-worn
sneakers. Yet that is precisely the charm of JUST FOR A THRILL. With help from
vocalists Albert Lee, Mike Sanchez, Georgie Fame, and Beverley Skeets, and a host of veteran rockers (including Mark
Knopfler on guitar), Wyman makes the familiar fun.



As one might expect from a group of musicians greying around the temples (okay, they're completely grey), there isn't
much of the grind and grit that characterized the Stones early R&B phase. But while the grooves are well polished
and easy on the ears, they also speak to the years of experience evident in the performances here. The repertoire is a
mix of originals (there are several tracks written by Wyman and guitarist Terry Taylor), Stax/Volt covers (Sam &
Dave's "You Don't Know"), standards ("Georgia on My Mind") and rock classics (the Beatles'
"Taxman"). This session is relaxed, easy-going, and all about good times.
